Rust's own Discord is run by Facepunch Studios, the British developer of the game, and Discord shows it as a verified official server. If you play the survival shooter and want news straight from the studio, this is the place to join.
Rust drops you on an island with almost nothing and leaves you to gather, build and raid against other players. Servers wipe on a regular schedule, and the first Thursday of each month is the big forced wipe that comes with Facepunch's monthly update. Announcements about those updates go out in the server's news channels, and its description links to the game's site, rust.facepunch.com.
Part of what makes the community useful is its size. You can ask about base designs, electricity or which community servers suit your schedule and usually get an answer quickly.
